Planning your St. Kitts vacation
Growing radiantly amid bright poincianas
and African tulip blooms, is beautiful St. Kitts - a 68-square-mile
island covered by the 3,973-foot Mount Limuiga. St. Kitts, an angler's
paradise, provides wonderful fishing opportunities from the summit
of its Black Rocks located on the northern tip of the peninsula. Eccentric
landmarks dating back to St. Kitts' colonial days carry visitors on
a historical journey back to a time when it was a rich plantation
island - then, the Europeans' first successful settlement in the Eastern
Caribbean during the 1600s. Brimstone Hill should be your first stop
on this road trip of discovery. There is so much to see and do while
staying at St. Kitts hotels, which is supposedly much livelier than
its sister island (Nevis). When you're not sightseeing, test the waters
of St. Kitts' blond- and white-sand beaches along its north and south
coasts. Hitch a ride on the ferry for a day trip to Nevis, just minutes
away from St. Kitts.
Travel Tips The beaches at St. Kitts are
its main attraction, so beach safety is of utmost importance for
vacation planners. Be sure to wear sunscreen with a high SPF, as
the sun can be quite intense, even on cloudy days. Reapply after
swimming, activity, or after several hours on the beach. While you
want to return home with a great tan, a bad sunburn can put a damper
on your vacation. Build your tan slowly during your stay. Many areas
along the beaches are patrolled by lifeguards, and families with
young children would be advised to frequent these.
St. Kitts is a very safe place to visit,
but visitors should use common sense. Don’t leave valuables in your
vehicle, or on the beach unattended. Numerous banks are located
throughout the islands which offer currency exchange, and ATM’s
are plentiful.
